AlphaGun V6 Review: Budget Wonder or Waste of Money?

The AlphaGun V6 is a percussive massage gun made by AlphaGun, a maker of various sports recovery devices.

Massage guns have been around for a while now, and there are a lot of them around – including some big players like Hypervolt and Theragun. Some compete on aesthetics, like the Hydragun and Ekrin B37, while others compete on price – like the Opove M3 Pro.

The AlphaGun V6 is attempting to sit between these categories, with a relatively low price (it costs $129 delivered) as well as matching or even beating some top-level devices in terms of accessories and speeds.

Unlike many low-cost Hypervolt alternatives, the V6 is also shipped from the US (not China, so delivery isn’t slow) and its sold by an established company.

The AlphaGun V6: What is it?

Overall, the AlphaGun V6 has got the basics right. In terms of features, it’s comparable to even some expensive devices like the Hyperice Hypervolt, which costs upwards of $300.

The AlphaGun V6 comes with a range of speeds, massage heads and a 1 year warranty. The max speed is 3,200 RPM and the minimum speed is 1,600 and the amplitude is 12mm. There are some 30 speeds in total, which is a lot, and 7 massage heads, which is more than most massagers.

The price is much lower though – at $129.

AlphaGun V6 Review

Unlike many budget-friendly massage devices, the AlphaGun V6 is shipped from the USA. It’s also made by an established player – AlphaGun have been around for about 4 years. They are not some random seller on eBay or Amazon that will disappear and not honor the warranty.

There are a lot of reviews (like these below) for other budget massagers on marketplace sites:

Some very cheap massager on other sites do not last
Some very cheap massager on other sites do not last
While others offer no warranty
While others offer no warranty

This is not a concern with the AlphaGun V6. They are easily contactable and offer a full 12 month manufacturer’s warranty.

Although on the AlphaGun site they make a big thing about all the extra speeds and heads (which are, admittedly, good) the real advantage the AlphaGun V6 has is that it’s sold by a legitimate long term business. Many low-priced massage guns are not.

Are percussive massagers any good?

It’s worth stopping for a moment to ask if percussive massage guns are actually any use.

Percussive massagers are an alternative to traditional massage in that they work deeper into the muscle tissue, allowing them to break down the collagen fibers that restrict movement.

This allows muscles to stretch and relax more quickly and improve flexibility, even for people who are inactive. They can even reduce muscle soreness, because they create contractions that can strengthen muscles without the need for exercise.

Percussive massagers are also a fantastic way to improve your range of motion and help to prevent some sports injuries. By improving circulation and oxygenation, percussion massage improves physical performance and can help you recover faster.

But, if you’re not a professional athlete, do you really need one? Many people who exercise do find them useful, and they can be useful for those who don’t as well. For example, some office workers who are sat at a desk all day find that using a massage gun on their legs can ease tension and ‘wake up’ their muscles.

There are even people who suffer from illnesses such as plantar fasciitis (foot muscle pain) that find using a massage gun beneficial.

What we liked about the AlphaGun V6

Powerful, but Adaptable

The AlphaGun V6 has a more powerful motor than we were expecting, and a wide range of speeds. In fact it actually has more speeds than most massage devices – including some that are much more expensive.

Good range of accessories

The V6 comes with 7 massage heads – the same number as the $299 Hydragun and more than either the Hypervolt or Theragun. This is more than enough for almost all users.

In addition it also comes with a free carry case and US charger.

Nice entry level massager

The AlphaGun V6 is a good device for those new to percussive massage devices for two reasons:

  1. At $129 it won’t break the bank
  2. With 30 speeds it will be comfortable for all users, including those who are new to massage guns, even when used on very sore muscles.
Reliable device, backed up

As mentioned earlier, the main ting we liked about this budget-friendly massager is that unlike other low-cost devices it is made by an established company and comes with a 12 month warranty.

What we didn’t like…

Weight

The AlphaGun V6 weighs about 2.5 lb. This is not exactly heavy, but there are lighter devices out there. Personally, I’d like to it be under 2 lb, but it’s not a huge issue. I’d also like the device to be slimmer in appearance.

Design

These are not massive issues, it’s just a personal thing about the design. I’d like it to be a bit more slim looking and lighter.

AlphaGun V6 Review: Conclusion

If you are looking for a massage gun for around $100, then the AlphaGun V6 offers a good combination of features, price and reliability.

It has more speeds than many devices, and this genuinely does make it more comfortable to use – especially if you haven’t owned one of these before. It can go up to some really powerful levels, but there are plenty of softer speeds for sore areas and you won’t get a shock when adjusting between them.

The range of heads is good too, and the battery life is better than average at 4 hours. This is especially the case when comparing the V6 to other low-cost massagers, which often have poor battery life or batteries that give up after a few charges.

Probably the best thing about the V6 though is that it’s backed by a real and established company.

AlphaGun have been around for over 4 years, so you can rely on the 1 year warranty in a way you can’t with some super-cheap devices on marketplace sites.

The AlphaGun V6 is only available through the official AlphaGun site.
